Nobody warns you that the biggest threat to a marriage after children is not conflict. It is logistics. You become excellent colleagues running a small, chaotic organisation, and somewhere in the handover notes you stop being a couple.
What worked for us was not date nights. Those were too expensive and too rare to carry the weight we put on them. What worked was smaller and duller.
Ten minutes on the sofa after bedtime with the television off. A rule that we do not discuss schedules during dinner. Asking a question we did not already know the answer to.
None of it is romantic in the way films are romantic. All of it is romantic in the way that being genuinely known by another person is romantic.
